For almost six decades, the folks in Hatteras village have hosted this fish fry. Sponsoring the fish fry is the Ladies Auxiliary at the fire department. Proceeds go to the Ladies Auxiliary, the Hatteras United Methodist Church and the Hatteras Village Civic Association. Pirates Invade RIFP
Pirates will invade Roanoke Island Festival Park on Friday, September 17, beginning at 3 p.m. in the sites venues. The annual event is in partnership with the Kitty Hawk Kites and their Annual Pirate Festival. The vicious and motley crew will begin the event with dueling, fighting, singing, storytelling, autograph signing and more (remember to bring your camera) as they wander throughout the site. At 5 p.m., they will then move to the Outdoor Pavilion where the festival will continue. Free activities will include Kitty Hawk Kites rock wall; kite making; face painting; and toy demos. Pamlico Jack’s will be offering food for sale which will include chicken fingers; hamburgers, soft drinks and popcorn- something for the entire family. They will also be using their air cannon to shoot free promotional items to the guests! The free movie Pirate’s of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl will start at 7:00 p.m. and will be shown on Kitty Hawks Kites big inflatable screen. Day at the Docks - A Celebration of Hatteras Island Watermen
Hatteras Village. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The commercial and charter fishing fleets will display their boats, skills, products and gear in a variety of competitions and demonstrations. Fourth Annual Duck Jazz Festival

Best-known for her eclectic style and colorful body-moving sound, Cooling is funky, soulful, and always original, and is recognized as one of the most dynamic and popular contemporary jazz guitarists in the world.

Art Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Mon-Fri) 10 a.m. 4 p.m. (Sat) Enjoy botanical drawings and nature art by this certified botanical illustrator, Kitty Dough and stoneware vases and basketry by Jim Fineman. Fineman gathers vines on Roanoke Island and combines them with reeds and sea grass to make the baskets. Reception: Dec. 5, 2-4 p.m. During 2010 the gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park will feature a group of exhibitions that give voice to the Earth. 107th Annual Celebration of the Wright Brothers First Flight
Wright Brothers National Memorial. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gather at the exact site at the exact time as the historic flight to remember, reflect and celebrate this milestone. The daylong anniversary tribute will be held at the site of Wright’s first flight. Visitors to the site experience a replica of the Wright Brothers’ 1903 encampment and majestic, 60-foot tall granite monument perched atop a 90-foot hill that serves a striking and lasting reminder of the important historical achievement that happened on this site a century ago.
